It's a Star Trek thing.

I've always been a little suspicious of the holodeck. I suspect that in real life the thing would be permanently shut down for reasons of safety by the second or third time that blood was shed or the entire ship was threatened.

Every time Stephan and I watch a "holodeck" episode, he says: "They still have that thing running?"

In my family, we are too smart to fully approve of the holodeck.

Our clear sight about holodecks tricked me into thinking that I looked dispassionately on Star Trek as a whole.

However, during our most recent bing watching as we get ourselves into the mood to write the second story arc of Volery, we're noticing how many times the crew, either in part or in whole, is taken over by malevolent entities.

It's actually quite troubling.

In the most benign of these episodes, mere crewmembers or the entire ship is threatened. In the more ambitious of these episodes, populated worlds, the Federation, or even the Universe are threatened.

Space is a dangerous place.

I know.

I'm a trekkie.
