My novel Bolekian Dreams contains two incidences where characters pick a magical flowering fern. This fern is called paperdese, and it is part of the Earthbound, European mythos. According to legends, Paperdese only blooms once a year, on Midsummer Eve, and the person who plucks it is granted wishes.
All my research told me ferns don't really flower. You only find them in faerie. However, while I was writing the book, I got a gardening magazine that
advertised them.
Magic dropped from the world of fantasy right
into my reality. Three flowers cost $9.99. Of course, the
gardening magazine neglected to document the legendary warnings about the flower, but I already know about those.
Who cares about warnings. My dreams can come true!
